The Heavy Feather

The Heavy Feather

A Poem by Melekije

The waves applaud as he took a stuttering bow,

Questions evaporating with one lingering;

“What do I do now?”

Waiting for an answer nothing was to be heard,

When off on the horizon flew an island bird.

A feather danced as it blew off the ocean whispers,

Landing by his feet, even with the warm sun, gave him a shiver.

“How is this an answer?” he shook his hands with fury,

“I feel so lost, going nowhere with a hurry!”

When he knelt down to pick up what has landed,

The wind grasped it first leaving him once again abandoned.

However this time there was a jolt of determination,

Catch that feather that has raised such attention.

It twirled and danced, gleaming in the setting sun,

An orange fairy feeding on his frustrated fun;

Just when the sky began to morph into night,

The wind stopping its glorious flight,

Gracefully the feather fell back to his feet,

He wondered why it has given in to defeat,

Although he thought this feather surrendered,

It blew around a lesson to be remembered,

Bending down to grab what he thought he now had,

A quick breeze in the distance made him almost go mad;

But with a deep breath he allowed the wind to graze his skin,

Suddenly the sensation he’s been waiting for rose from within.

He tilted his head up, raised his hands, and gazed at the rising moon,

“If I chase what I want, will happiness come too?!”

The ocean now quiet, he now only heard a slight breeze,

The light feather landing in his hand, bringing him down to his knees.
