Swimming Lessons

Swimming Lessons

A Poem by Melekije

Shaking hands with the shadow that mimics every move taken with the setting sun,

Walking down to the ocean front to hear the hypnotic hymn of the ocean waves,

The wind is chanting to walk closer to the edge of the water where you are called upon,

Dare you not go in for the current is yelling with rage.

No preparation can be forced on to the unpredictable path the water sways,

Mother Nature’s precious Poseidon charm lures the weak hearts in,

Giving in, swimming out while the warmth wraps your whole body for days,

This is where the mistake begins.

Lungs that could once breathe are now pressured just to survive,

Heart beat slowing anticipating a jolt of want from the water that portrayed no hurt,

Consumed by this love that’s decaying your every struggle to stay alive,

Carried away in a wall of what you never thought would break and spit back into the dirt.
