Midnight is Almost Here

Midnight is Almost Here

A Poem by mnicorata
"

Something I wrote one night thinking about my life and other things.

"

Sometimes I stay up at night and contemplate

Well into the morning hours

When the sky’s fingernail looms into the night

The other day a wish fell from it

With its lightning tail blistering behind

As I pondered and felt all things personal

Crashing like waves, hitting everything in the heart

Like a million dancing stars bursting all at once

Wondering where this life of mine was headed

Well into old age I felt the ground tilt

As my eyes faded out and slowly back into focus

Feeling my past melt into the night sky

All those thoughts, mostly regrets coming into fruition

Of all the things I should have done but did not

Just as the stars they came out and disappear by morning

These dreams of mine back to when I was a child

Drifted past the yard, a new place I never I would be

I am here now, sitting and contemplating still

This happens most nights and that escape dissipates by morning

Just another day on the horizon when the clock strikes

Time to go back in and let that night sky fade into black

Like all these dreams I had and dwindled out in time

Those stars seem so distant now and twinkle like previous memories

And by morning all those stars will turn black

My mind reverberates as the man trembles for the coming day
