Less is more when it comes to words

Less is more when it comes to words

A Poem by Kimberly "Melody" Carney

Less is more when it comes to words,

this thought may seem absurd,

but as I grow and listen much,

I learn, I should think first.

I used to think my knowledge king,

and love to hear it ring,

I’d go on and on ‘till the break of dawn

about just everything.

Soon a woman in golden years,

whispered words in my ear.

She said to become the wisest of all,

you must first learn to hear.

I learned that the wisest of men

choose wise, few words to speak.

They think they know nothing at all,

as if still empty and bleak.

They crave to learn by listening,

the hunger never to cease.

They speak among themselves sometimes,

there knowledge does increase

I strive to be as the wise man,

choosing words wise and few.

Craving wisdom, so will listen,

Loving everything new.

Your words are true in this poem. A wise person know what he want to say and understand the topic. Nothing as foolish is to speak on a subject you have no skill or ability about. I enjoyed the thoughts and the logic of this poem. Thank you for the outstanding poem.

I agree that your words are true and shines a powerful message about wise people. I can relate to this since my mother's definitely a wise woman and she speaks a few words and it makes a ton more sense than a whole day of talking. She always rather listen than talk. She's my role model on stuff like that, since I need to learn from her. Because I love to talk more than listen, and I talk a whole lot :3 Anyway, back to your poem. As I read more of your work, I'm being more and more impressed each time. Great job! :D

The wise person does think about what they should say and chooses just a few words to convey the meaning, which is why I'll ramble on and on. We may wonder if someone is stupid, then after listening for a while they remove all doubt. I was wondering about the next-to-last verse, last line, where it says, "there knowledge". 'There' could be the location where great minds meet or 'their' could denote ownership. Actually, either one would work. It's a wise poem.
