Beyond This Sandy Beach

Beyond This Sandy Beach

A Poem by Michael McLaughlin

Beyond This Sandy Beach

Beyond this sandy beach,
The ocean there does lie,
From here it seems to reach,
The early morning sky.

It's massive waters stretch,
As far as I can see,
Into my mind they etch,
A dream of being free.

Within this elegance,
Great secrets lie untold,
Their truth and circumstance,
In time to us unfold.

It rushes to the shore,
Like something from the past,
As if within its core,
Is something much more vast.

It swells and then it breaks,
Like mankind's rise and fall,
Reminding how mistakes,
Can take life from us all.

Beyond this sandy beach,
The ocean there does lie,
Its reason out of reach,
I've often wondered why.
