Crossroads

Crossroads

A Poem by Michael McLaughlin

Crossroads

Ahead a crossroad lies.
A stretch that winds and weaves.
And here my progress slows,
To guess where each one leads.

I think of moves I've made.
Some good and others bad.
And wonder how I strayed,
Into the course I've had.

Both ways I cannot go.
And know not which to choose.
Though one of them I'll gain.
The other I will lose.

My weary eyes reflect,
The burden of this task.
I wish to know them both.
But no one's here to ask.

Before I reached this spot,
The road was straight and fast.
Now every choice I make,
Will be here to the last.

Decision time has come.
I travel forth alone.
And choose a path for life.
The consequence unknown.
