Chameleon Self

Chameleon Self

A Poem by MelLo

Can't understand me?
Let me paint you a picture with my words:
Even if I've made you happy,
with just one step I can make it disappear.
Whenever you think you've won,
I've already dusted off the trophy and it's on display!
Whenever you feel you've got the upper hand,
remember the swinging door will slap you back!
Just because it seems a lost cause
won't mean I will give in, give up, surrender!
You are invincible only in your mind,
but my heart has already let you go:
no explanations necessary, no horrid goodbyes!
Maybe your mind will now stumble
upon the thought of how things
could seem so right and go so terribly wrong.
My mind is clear; my emotions left on this page.
I no longer fear how far you will lead,
for I will not follow you, nor now nor ever!
Keep your silly sentiment
cause words are only words in the end.
I believe actions would set me straight,
sure enough, it didn't take long
and there it goes, once again.
And it is all for the best!
Chances are I needed this wake up call to stop
this everlasting quest, dunce quest
for greatness disguised as a man.
I am liberated!  I am awaken!
Thank you for this rude awakening!
I will not let it be lesson learned in vain.
I believe I found what I was looking for long ago.
Perhaps now, I can learn to let go
see my heart balloon fly away into the heavens,
and love again, completely!
