He Doesn't Realize

He Doesn't Realize

A Poem by MK
"

This was written the night after an ordeal with a friend

"

Scared he doesn’t realize

That pain he went through

The stomach retching

The numbness

The crying

He doesn’t remember anything

But one song

And that song we all sang

To keep him alive

We sat around a toilet

Making sure he was safe

For two hours

Watching him dry heave

Watching him pour out his heart

Watching him tremor

Six blankets and he was still cold

Laying on the floor

Three girls holding him

As our hearts break

We watch him barely hang on

His best friend carried his body

To the toilet and the ground

Watching in hurt

As his friend tried to drink away his pain away

Adding more pain and misery,

Only to wake the next day,

Ready to drink again…

This is really emotional, one thing on the line "We watch him barely hand on" you indented slightly and I don't think you meant to. Despite that small mistake I loved the poem. I have never known someone who drank like this, my friends are not known for their substance abuse, I wish i could understand what you are going through, but sadly I can not.

I feel the same way as my wife Cattie Rain. This is you bearing it all. A lot of people see this happen, but only a few can write it this way. Great Job.

This is good. Having known a friend who used to drink like that, it makes me sad. But that's a good thing for you as a writer. It means we can empathize with your characters. Good job.
