The First Time

The First Time

A Poem by mjsalyers

I was hanging out with my good friend you know , the holy Jesus Christ .
I was suprised by his thoughts and his many takes on life .
It took us only 40 minutes for both of us to find .
Neither of us are anything holy but we did what we wanted with our time .
Disinterested in holy relics , disinterested by the past .
Both of us sorrily misquoted in other authors' deceptive hands .
Befor the night was over Christ reached out and shook my hand .
He said " it's good to see someone finally noticed I was above all , a man ".
Let's get out of here .
   Let's ride the train .
If that's not fast enough .
We can catch a plane .
We are all just the carpenters .
We build the aspects of our lives .
   The woulda' , Shoulda' , Coulda' .
You just got to try and get it right .... the first time .
Jesus sat there drunk and solum , we ordered 50 more drinks .
Playing ping pong with ideas while we were both too drunk to drink.
He brought up his dillusions and , the cross that wore his weary mind .
He said " the methods were somewhat different but we were both crucified !"
   Let's get out of here
Let's grab that mourning rain .
Noone's got the right to say .
Who's to bless and who's to blame .
We are all just the carpenters .
We build the contents of our lives .
   The woulda' , Shoulda' , Coulda' .
You just got to try and get it right .... the first time .
Jesus said " goodnight , I know we'll meet again "
I said " I know that's true , I don't give up on my friends "
He said something about his father not wanting me in his house .
But said he's put a good word in there for me and at least sneak me in .
Let's get out of here .
Let's catch that morning train .
Noone's got the right to say .
Who's to bless and who's to blame .
We are all our own carpenter .
We build every aspect of our lives .
   The woulda' , Shoulda' , Coulda' .
We just got to try and get it right .... the first time .
