Moving On

Moving On

A Poem by MJ Rothlain

“It wasn’t that great…

It was better to change…

It was supposed to end up like this…

It was never meant to be…”

Keep telling yourself we grew apart

Empty words

All that’s left

Of that wonderfully bright time

Deep down you know it’s true

It might not have been better

Words are the only relief… they delude us

We all tell ourselves it wasn’t great

When the truth is it hurts to remember how good it was

You remember the magical times

Blue eyes looking into brown

Soft smiles

Precious moments… too few of them in this world

Why must we throw them away

Melancholy of moving on

Sugar turned bittersweet

So treasured…

Yet they remind us there will never be more

Take the pain, the melancholy

Don’t bury it so deep in the confines of ourselves

Life’s too short

To throw away priceless time so lightly
