Helen's Incidentals

Helen's Incidentals

A Poem by Kristina Moulaison

You are the sun and moon

And Venus, bright and bare

Alight with pearl and ivory robe

A translucent caressing dare

That plays in shadow, a loom

That weaves alluring locks in

Ropes of crimson hair, a welcome

Shackle, whose bosom beckons, invites

The broken door that bleeds

For ransom, the queen that launched

A thousand ships, sits staring

At a broken mirror, there

Inside the hull of a traitor’s ship, gazing

At her oozing lip, the fire of ants crawling

Inside, her splayed legs, shuttering,

Dizzy, head spun black

From all her blinding power

Wow - great interpretation - The marriage of Helen and Menelaus marks the beginning of the end of the age of heroes. Concluding the catalogue of Helen's suitors, Hesiod reports Zeus' plan to obliterate the race of men and the heroes in particular. It is disputed whether she eloped or was abducted (and raped) by Paris, but it did trigger the 'Trojan wars'! Great write ....

This started very warm and adoring, then ... it took a turn! I have not yet decided if this is a turn toward the macabre, or the erotic (I think it can be interpreted either way). Pray tell ... what did you have in mind as your pen scratched its way across the parchment??
