Ordinary Monsters

Ordinary Monsters

A Poem by Kristina Moulaison

She lay there cowering on the floor

spitting and screeching, taking it.

He was a bear dressed in man skin,

wild with fury, coming at her, blind.

Never, she said, never again,

with her broken bones to witness.

Still before they had set, and

even before the sun came down to

rest, it wasn't really him. She had

taught herself to believe

in his disguise.
