Eclipsis

Eclipsis

A Poem by Kristina Moulaison

I am a tree

bearing opulent fruit.

As you sit in my shade,

I bend to listen,

absorb your tears,

growing deeper roots

to hold up under you.

You climb my sturdy branches,

with arched abandon swing,

and lift your face toward the sun.

I sit above, as you

crack acorn pieces of soul

against my outer bark,

breathing my air,

and hearing your chiming

echo whispers

in the rustling murmur of leaves...

I know, that you will

never hear

the music of

my rings,

though I am singing it

always, in elliptic mist

upon the breeze.

Our pairing is

the broken symmetry,

of a waning

gibbous moon.

I love the diction, especially 'gibbous'.

But I somehow read it "the broken symmetry of waning' hmmm

Vivid imagery, esp "you climb my sturdy branches with arched abandoned swing'

Traditionally, the tree stands for 'truth' as in "The dream of the rood" (even the word truth derives from the word tree way back).

As such, this piece can stand on many levels, and naturally, the tree need not be a metaphor for truth at all.

i find that this represents how flawed people connect to each other.
similar to a jig saw puzzle, they each have gaps that can fill in for the other person.

this may just be me though.
very well done Kristina

Yes, that's good! Thank you! :)
''I know, that you will never hear ~ the music of my rings,~ though I am singing it always, in elliptic mist ~ upon the breeze.

There's a mystery to this: thoughts that maybe hide in beautiful poetry but would become too.matter.a.fact if explained in detailed prose. This pairing is more a taking rather than sharing, yet both are aware of what there could/should be That sharing of rings is time past yet to be found - i think..

Yes, thank you so much Emma Joy! :)
broken people find broken people to lean on...and often that tree can only withstand the pressure for so long, until it breaks in half...some who have their own problems take on those of others on top of that..and become like a tree bending in a storm...with the weight of two.

A worthy interpretation...thanks Jacob!
I love how you take something so simple and make it grand, the chants of old wise men and history's untold stories ring through your limbs....we never seem to learn the lessons told by someone else, even someone as grand as an old tree sharing it's moon's of knowledge. Love the title, great word eclipsis...
