Broken Symmetry

Broken Symmetry

A Poem by Kristina Moulaison

Of flesh, mind, heart...

I cannot afford

these bits of puckered cloth,

each wilted leaf that falls, drifting

slights against man,

little stitches I have dropped,

floating away

exposed in the wind, naked

I fall, adrift, clutching

at misspelled words, uncovered n*****s,

neglected thank you notes,

guilty

wafting silences-

all of them apples I have

tasted, rolling away

I cannot abide

you seeing, feeling,

knowing

this

unforgivable

broken

symmetry

I am-

that I,

like dried leaves

shattered and fallen

ungathered, am a wallowing

slight against paradise,

without covering-

this voice always hunting me,

wondering,

child,

why have you

hidden yourself
