Chapter 5

Chapter 5

A Chapter by Jenni Robinson

I'm awaken by the sun a few hours after. This route I have, running, sleeping here for a week, and walking around is going to be the death of me, I swear it. I grab the yellow skinned apple from my pack and munch on it while I think about tonight. Of Mice & Men are like my guardian angels, their music has always given me a place to escape when I've been having problems with my step dad, Darren is his name by the way. Their music has always been there for me, I constantly listen to it and often times has 'sung' me out of self harm, and wanting to go deeper into my canvas. They've been so inspirational to me, they are the reason I keep living on. There were points where I wanted to end it all, but rhythms and lyrics have brought me out of that s**t, and they make me want to inspire other people. With music and all the s**t that has gone on in just this year, I wanted to escape it all. Whether that meant running away or self harm. But they were my escape, to just put those buds in, and drown out the worlds sound, and just be almost numb or oblivious to the world for a while, I felt relief. It means so much for me to see them because I want to thank them for all that they've done for me, and see if they could just give me advice in how I could help change the world with music.
I try to brush out my hair, but its too tangly and dirty. I decide that I should probably shower before the concert anyways and I could then properly wash my cut too. I walk to the closest gym and wave to Jan as I walk in, and head to the showers. I wash my hair twice and start to clean the dried blood off my calf. I stepped out of the stall and walk over to the mirrors. Wincing at my own reflection, I force myself to assess my bruises. The ones on my sides are black, my upper arms are blue, and the ones on my wrists are both with some purple. A light yellow bruise adorns my left cheek, but it's not noticeable unless you're right next to my face. I’m careful when I pull on my Of Mice & Men sleeved shirt and my black skinny jeans. I decided to line my eyes with some black eyeliner, a little like cat eyes. Brushing through my mid back, golden blonde hair, I'm set. It's a two-hour walk from here to the concert, so I start on my trek.
