But You Weren't

But You Weren't

A Poem by MissRed
"

The loss of life before it has really begun.

"

i thought you were there

knew that i could feel you

hold you to my heart

but you weren't.

i thought you were there

growing and holding on

a part of me, new

the beginning of life

but you weren't.

i thought you were there

filling me with anxiety

but love, joy, new hope

my belly warm and tender

but you weren't.

how could i miss you

think i feel you

hold my hand to protect you

love you, need you, picture you...

but you weren't there?

I really like the sense of longing that this poem evokes in the reader. It seems a little abrupt at points, but that really works for this poem. I'm not quite sure if you're going for anger or wistful sadness, though (I get more of the latter than the former) but either way your emotions come clearly across. Well done!

i can really feel the pain flowing through this one. its such a harsh reality when someone realizes that a person isn't the same person your imagination thought they were.
