The Other Truth

The Other Truth

A Poem by MissRed
"

learning an awful truth (by the way, not true! lol)

"

she told me that she had slept with him.

i was cooking scrambled eggs

my back to her

my hand gripping the handle of the skillet

a fork in the other

oh yeah? i asked her

i laughed at the sight of her with him

how could she think that was right

it was he and i that was right

when i turned around she was crying

she thought she loved him

i wanted to hug her and pity her

i think i love him, she said

and don't you think i already know? i asked

because it was true

i've known this forever

i couldn't change that

i twisted the band on my finger

until it pinched the skin

so now what, where do we go?

the other truth: that i just don't know
