A Sleepy Smile

A Sleepy Smile

A Poem by MissRed
"

Written for and about my son, now 2

"

my head nods with sleepiness just as it did so many long nights years ago

and i hold you loosely in my arms, rocking us both back into slumber

your eyes half open still i see a touch of their bright boy blue

and the corner of your little mouth twitches slightly into a sleepy smile

i wonder what dreams you are drifting off into this warm summer night

do you dream of me, your mother, of your favorite toys, your favorite treat

despite my aching head and the slow and deep breaths rising and falling

i can't quite let go just yet for these moments have become so rare

and they are sweetest moments we can have, you and i

we both are returned to an innocent rememberance of the earliest days

when i still wrapped you tightly in a soft, striped blanket

and could hold you, look at your face, for hours and never get bored

putting you down now would end the connection a mother always longs for

and so tonight we'll indulge in it at least one more time

and with that i tuck you in closer to my breast and let my own sleepy smile come to life

So beautiful, my babies are grown and now my grandchildren give me the same joy, if not more cause, I'm a relief to mom and I give 'em back when I'm tired. No greater joy then the seeds of our loins, in todays time with girls throwing their babies away it' comforting that some apprieciate the blessing. Excellent.

This is LOVELY! I don't have children, but I've held my niece at that stage of slumber, and that's what this brought back to me.
It's very serene and wistful, and I really love it :)

Beautiful expression of a mother's love! Remembering those precious chubby little cheeks still makes me smile after many years. :-) Sharon

What a loving and sweet tribute to the love you share with your son! Oh my, they grow so fast. Something about their sleeping face though that takes on the peace of them at their earliest age - had to wake up my son who is now 17 this morning and I was thinking how he looked when he was a baby - the eyelashes out on his cheeks. This is a very tender and lovely poem - filled with love and that special bond that time won't take!
