The Last Goodbye

The Last Goodbye

A Poem by MissRed

the last goodbye is always the worst
and i struggle to remember the first
because at least with that one
i knew that i would see you again
and not just in some dream that
comes with the heat of the night
and empty, useless sleep
and worst of all, i can't remember
the little things, the details
the ones we all want to remember most
smells, background sounds, a glint in the eye
the things that it pull it all together
when we want the peace of a memory
or even the pain, if that is what it comes to
so here i lie, fighting the fade of time
wishing i could have one more chance
at that last goodbye
