The Burning

The Burning

A Poem by MissRed

my shoulders are hot and burning
i feel them crisp and red, blistering in the sun.
it is a feeling of life,
a pain that is good.
i fall back, my face up to the sun,
and with my eyes closed tight
i can see a kaleidiscope of color that slowly fades.
the rock of the boat calms me, cleans me.
time seems to creep by, and i like it that way.
my skin sticking to the vinyl of the seats
i dare not move, i barely breath at all.
it is just me here no matter how close you are.
i feel your presence in the shadow that falls over me.
as my warmth fades, and the sun remains hidden,
you take away my waking dream
and bring me back to reality.
