John or Jane Doe

John or Jane Doe

A Poem by Patty Neff

John or Jane Doe
Call me whomever you wish
For if ever you met me
My name comes second to your bliss
Attentive to your words
With a smile upon my face
Pleasantries spilling from my lips
Like poetic prose with such refined grace
My voice full of laughter
Spewing inspirational phrases that are much sorely needed
Fulfilling everyone's desires
While mine remain unseen and unheeded
So, call me John or Jane Doe
For any name placed in memory will soon leave
I'm usually so quickly forgotten
Once my purpose is achieved
