the foxglove and the orchid

the foxglove and the orchid

A Poem by hanzabonanza

I watched you dance

across the room

your eyes half shut in bliss

soft brown hair flying

arms raised

feeling the music

later I was bold enough

to get off the sofa

walk up to you

taking your hands in mine

I let you move me

wishing we were alone

like they said

you hit all the right notes

our conversations in sync

finding a beat with someone

even our thoughts harmonized

it was then

I remembered what it was

to be wanted

and looked at

when I had felt

so forgotten

I don’t know

what tipped the balance

our tightening embrace

or my wide eyed gaze

but nonetheless

I stopped breathing

when you pulled me away

away down a rabbit hole

of half-remembered desires

which you were now

here

going to fulfill

my Christmases come all at once

and when we were finally

alone

you subverted all expectations

it was my eyes

half shut in bliss

my arms held to the headboard

and my pleadings

the most numbered

your care and attention

was mesmerising

each part of me cherished

working your way through

skin and hips and spine

your focus and energy

without end

it was dawn

when my own energy broke

falling asleep

with you curled behind me

feeling safe and content

the next day I walked tall, proud

and with strength

your effect permeating

down to my bones

my smile broad

even now

I can still feel your hands

on me

your kisses

lingering on my neck

your hot, sweet breath

caressing my skin
