Yes, I feel fine

Yes, I feel fine

A Poem by hanzabonanza

I remembered the important things

breathing

smiling

holding the wine glass

attempting to look interested

proudly, I even managed lying

as you breathed in my ear

I’m glad you are ok with this

and I mumbled back

of course, I’m happy for you both

my fake smile

sickening I’m sure

masked the stabbing feeling

that was swelling in my stomach

when of course

I was not happy at all

not happy you could be so careless

with your own feelings

and the lingering ones of mine

not happy I had been dragged out

unknowingly to play this charade

the teacher, her student lover

and I the stricken roommate

not happy to spy

his hand reach for yours

then after rest on your leg

in the uncertain cinema light

neither was I happy

to hear you gush of your happiness

and of his, watching the wine

and love go to your head

or the murky apology

regarding your drunkenness

when I wanted a different one

of making me feel such a fool

but don’t worry

we are all fools in our own way

just some more than others

I know where you and I stand
