A Poem by hanzabonanza

the moon was heavy

its crescent brushing the horizon

as we walked together

down the deserted street

the stars with their bright fingers

clinging to a velvet sky

while your fingers instead

brushed against mine

the cold hanging in the air

like a gossamer net

unable to tell was it from that

or nerves that we shivered

night had come so suddenly

wantonly enveloping the street

our shadows fragmenting

the dark as we walked

the line between day and night

blurred, dusk but an ideal

how had our mouths found

each other in the beginning?

at first, it had been blackness

before the stars began appearing

me alone in a sea of strangers

before you pulled me in like the moon

the spell of night-time

intoxicates and overpowers

its affects lasting on you

but til daybreak

the sun is cruel

and shatters the sky with its glare

the constellations in your wide eyes

fading like the embers of a fire

when daylight has won

the features of the land are exposed

and it is painful to look at you

with the stain of remorse in your eyes

turning away from you

I long for night to come again

so I can hide away in the shadows

like a thief
