A Poem by hanzabonanza

all our memories are photographs

and every conversation written

down on hundreds of pages

your scent hangs like death

a reminder of what was

and would never be again

already you are fading

just a little more

my hands are shaking

as I light the pyre

the flames licking across your face

eyes blacked out

and mouth a blur

I send you off down the river

the entirety of a year

in the life of us

contained on this small boat

watching you disappear

into the black choking waves

my tears fall, cleansing me

of all traces of you

and when I walk away

I do not look back

because there is nothing to see

you have already gone
