ReverseA Poem by hanzabonanzastanding there in the interval dressed to the nines in my concert dress with a cup of tea in one hand you made me feel naked engrossed in conversation turning round to see you like snow in summer your unexpected sight jolting me to the core I think we spoke more with words unsaid than any verbalized utterance a knowing glance your pale hand on my arm unable to place your age the sneaky grays in your hair disconcerting me my foolish, clumsy youth the elephant in the room remembered you taught me to waltz with a gentle grasp and relaxed smile the proximity of our bodies a new, strange sensation confident to step around the floor shaking to shimmering beats but unsure of where the line is that we might might step over too a intoxicating mix of guilt and reticence learning the shape, smell, touch of a man again frightens me like coming out in reverse seems like a betrayal but also a doubt knowing that nothing can ever be labelled as one thing forever happy to float eternally in the grey undefined © 2010 hanzabonanza |
