diamonds in the dirt

diamonds in the dirt

A Poem by hanzabonanza

I hug my knees

pulled close to my chest

reminds me I’m a living creature

legs that are quickly forgetting

what it is to wrap around a body

to brush against another

hands remain useless

no face to hold

or skin to caress

skin becomes electric

at the feel of touch

stretching back in lazy lust

all a controllable pile

of wants, needs, desires

til you come and subvert it

flaming hair

mirroring my belly-pit fire

we dance, laugh, smile

a new face

a new landscape to explore

for once all the cards laid out

I swallow my needs for you

not to seem too rash

wanting to know you to the bones

it’s early days

you won’t be mistake 293

I promise myself this

but I have to put my clock away

at night, the ticking reminds me

of the waiting

for the thing that might never come
