last bell

last bell

A Poem by hanzabonanza

same corridors and halls

but I walk them differently now

knowing that I will soon leave

every metre holding a memory

each person part of another day

passing the music board

where I had my first kiss

knowing I am not her anymore

the one who wept in that room

when finally facing the truth

round the back of the barn

destroying a friendship

so carelessly, so unthinking

yet on that seat

where it was all rekindled again

sneaking, weeping, running and

hurting

hiding, racing, laughing and

loving

I did it all, I felt it all

where will I next lie on a field?

drinking in sunlight

and ascend a certain staircase

feeling nothing but nerves and panic?

where I came as a girl

and left as a woman

so more broken and alive

than ever before
