Status: UnknownA Poem by hanzabonanzaI wonder where you went Out of my life, into the world Still tuning that old grand piano To a perfection I could never hear Berating those with inferior grammar And a limited lexicon Never as clever as you Is there someone else you entrance Toss and turn between love and hate Waiting for your texts at midnight Words that gave me false hope Did you have other plans? And you flash them a shark smile Like you used to do to me Pepper words with composers Key changes, chord progressions Making them feel like the child That they no longer are Do they count each hour as golden The nights, the car trips What was it for? What did you want? Well, I would have given it all Even the breath from my body Do their parents eventually notice The nerves before each lesson Sitting on hands to keep still And afterward the flushed cheeks, Sparkling eyes, breathless voice Do you think I was born yesterday Here's an update for your accounts: Still waiting for your replacement But it's impossible. I never knew what you were Too young for my mother And old for my sister Too cold for my lover Too warm for my teacher Thought you'd like to know Still listen to the Bill Evans cd You gave me and cry, feeling sick. Imagining the melancholy notes Played by you, given life by you Transported back two years And only now I remember I never did sing you the songs I wrote for you, did I? © 2010 hanzabonanzaReviews
