Cold Feet

Cold Feet

A Poem by hanzabonanza

she's two people at once

the one before and after

seduction and defeat

the chaser and captured

each time drawn by the hunt

the thrill, the rush into dizzy descent

always same technique

which never fails to ensnare

she's knows the conclusion

is not release

yet still she sprints towards

old lessons never learnt

and then it hits her

the brick wall, icy truth

she is unable to deal with

guilt, guilt, guilt so guilty

a sick feeling lurches back

from the depths of her stomach

that this is wrong

forbidden. a lie.

turns her back on advice

on herself, these present feelings.

days, weeks, months, it'll return

addicted to the fire

but set adrift by the burn
