Headless

Headless

A Poem by hanzabonanza
"

Under the pen-name of Ali Azim

"

Last night I awoke to darkness

The heavy curtains slightly parted

And a shard of moonlight

Broke up the empty void

In the murky air I felt someone watching

The cold sweat dripping down my back

As I leaned up in my bed

In the gloom I could make out a person

Sitting on my armchair in the corner

The wind from the window shifted the light

And the moonbeam moved up the floor

Up your chest

Up your head

Up, Up, Up

To where your head should have been

I screamed but nothing came out

Was I awake or asleep?

Yet still you sat there

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting

As if for me to help you

You were looking for it

Weren’t you?

That handsome head you wore

Oh so well

I see it at the bottom of the sea

The fish swimming out of

Those empty eye sockets

The lips slightly parted

Did they run away in fear

When you washed up on the beach?

What a sight you would have been

Just the card in your pocket

To identify your sorry shape

Go to sleep my dear

Be at peace

Forget your earthly body

And that which you cannot find

It is gone now

Lost like your ship

Beneath the waves

I must say, I had a hard time paying attention and following this.
It goes all over the place, it's rather unclear.
I suppose you could argue and say poems don't have to be clear, but I'm just saying it needs some work.
I like the wording, however.
Your vocabulary is fairly good.
