The Definition of GlamourA Poem by hanzabonanzaWritten under the pen-name Mina HyattAway from the laughter and caresses From the swagger of the band In a room of roses and post cards She sits, surveying her features. Cigarette in one hand kohl in the
other No shaking destroys the perfect line Around the glistening eye The lips are rouged to a bitten red And each blonde lash individually
separated. As she moves the brush over her
cheeks Her breath is slow and steady Porcelain
doll skin, so unblemished So smooth, The kind that
kisses are made for The kind
lovers die for. Tonight she
forgoes the silk dress And instead wears
a top hat and tails The black
satin trousers are like a glove To her long
slender legs She sports it
better than any man could And walks
with that same borrowed arrogance The golden
curls bouncing above her shoulders The voices of
the audience swells As she walks
the dingy corridor to the wings She’s calm as
the compare talks Contrasting
his pre-show panic The house is packed! Be your best tonight! Hmm
she murmurs, far way. That
mysterious implacable accent Coy yet
refined, a husky honey-trap. Into the
velvet black she steps The smoke
rising lazily from the tables And the chink
of glasses in well-dressed hands Her smile
silencing the awed crowd The myth has
become reality for one night Even if she
denies the icon she has become Every man
wants to touch her Even the
women feel her pull She blurs the
lines With her
fantastic suit and feminine body It is not her
gender that attracts But because
she is so free Free to be
whoever she wants They thought
they had seen glamour In the
movies, in the music halls But that was
before she walked in And glamour
