the dove

the dove

A Poem by hanzabonanza

I feel I could fit you

in the palm of my

hand

a half

forgotten dream

an orchid

bloom

falling through the air

delicate

perfectly formed

the scent of your

perfume

new to me

but familiar

you turn to me

and smile

reality stretching

so wide

in front of my eyes

my skin burns

the sound fading

from my ears

I see your lips

move

but the words I heard

years and years

before

I lean across

before you finish

your sentence

we’re shimmering

our very being

disappearing

returning

like a flickering

light on

midsummer’s eve

that light in your

eyes there

since the day

you were born

I feel it

reaching every

part of my body

every day

I keep you close

like a prayer

that I only begin

to understand

the words of

there’s simply

too much to say

you tilt your head

and I understand

everything

at home

the orchid is blooming

again for

the first time

fed not by tears

but by the warm

summer rains

yet to come
