from the longest night

from the longest night

A Poem by hanzabonanza

out of the city

I find myself walking

though silence

with mud

up my boots

the wind

reaches down

with long fingers

pulling at my coat

the flightpath

above just an

extra meditation

the droning

a strict rhythm

to pace to

the trees are humming

secrets to me

that I had

long since forgotten

left behind

from my childhood

but I’m warmed

from my mouth

to my toes

the giddy beam

at winter fruit

gifted to my nose

the thames beats on

relentless

towards where the

city begins to spring up

the Shard just

a pinprick

upon the heavy sky

later I watch the

sunset

melt into the lake

peeling her

orange skin

amongst

the waves

through the weekend

the glow continues

until there

is a woman

with the warmth

of that sunset

in her eyes

standing in front of me

and with the

swiftness of the wind

I’m melting

for the first time

in months

she sees that beam

and beams right back

two happy stars

lighting up

the high street

her kiss reconnecting

all the synapses

in my brain

just as my happiness

returned

she arrived like

a last minute

Christmas delivery

the two events unconnected

but still ricocheting

off the walls

of my mind

the new year

is opening up

in front me

and I pass through

calm and still

as water, following

where the current

will take me next
