night train

night train

A Poem by hanzabonanza

night-

wide open

a black

that never sleeps

I chased the moon

across the vast

yawning sky

leaving stars

scattered, broken

buttons

in my wake

in Nice-

high, wide

bright white

proud it shone

now weaving

out of Bristol

it sinks exhausted

shedding yellow tears

in tracks across a blue

that swells with

each passing second

the carriage

full of warmth

tries to revive- to no avail-

my cold bones

my tired mouth

that can no

longer remember to smile

far away you

are sleeping

or perhaps stirring

and waking

my heart breaking

all over again

you sleep on unaware

or perhaps aware

of my blinking message

your perfume

a cruel duty

free prank I played

upon my myself

studs the morning

smothering the stars

one by one

I need more than

time or silence

or distance

only your words, or

voice, or even momentary

gaze

can close the void

between us
