alternate state

alternate state

A Poem by hanzabonanza

you

far away maybe

or maybe not

in mind

in body

the city

a little wider

broader

not pressing down

on my eyelids

the air perhaps clearer

more fresh

a new kind of spring

I’m not bouncing quite

yet

breathing

doesn’t feel

like choking anymore

just a close hold

still in check

when- the loaded word-

is too much to

bear

so I push on

push on

the reflection in

the mirror

even now surprises me

I’m still there

waving back

yes I am still here

do you remember

but of course

some stains

never come out

I didn’t fade

like your shadow

words appear on my page

now not like tears

but possibilities

still

the voice

yours

the perfume

floating like a cloud

not quite

your last lines

but I’ll get there

in time

things remain unsaid

words

that sleep in my nightmares

like your face last night

my eyes you extinguished

with a pluck of fingers

could not quite

shroud your face

but I am unblinking

re-beginning

when we meet next

my strength will surprise

even myself

seeing more now

beneath my

watery depths

than you ever realised
