closer

closer

A Poem by hanzabonanza

I open the door

autumn waving hello

its crackled welcome

resting on my lips

the clouds are moving

full steam ahead

churning factories

of cotton white

instead of the street

I am walking

down the beach

towards you

barefoot on the sands

you stand

so tall and strong

rippling hair like flags

you pull at the kite

while the wind

tugs you in return

your laughter reeling me in

shrugging off

the air’s grasp

I wrap my arms

around your waist

1, 2, 3,

1, 2, 3,

we waltz the beach

with ease

we dance

like singing or talking

exchanging rhythms

instead of words

the kite streaks

giddily overhead

unleashed

from your grasp

a crimson

shooting star

splintering

the October blue
