whilst airborne

whilst airborne

A Poem by hanzabonanza

as you soared

into the early autumn air

the sky plucked your

tiny vessel

between its breezy fingers

and tossed you

like a paper aeroplane

across the Atlantic

somewhere far below

sitting in my garden

my tears only just drying

I tilted my head

to hear the sound

of you whizzing away

leaving a white kiss

in the sky for me

using vague calculations

I discovered the clouds

would suspend you

for nine hours or so

before being dropped

gently-

a child releasing his boat-

back down to earth

I am afraid to report

I did not fill my nine

hours wisely

but instead spent them

mostly looking skywards

as if for you to reappear

refreshing arrivals

and old memories

the time stretches out

in front of me

-not just the 9 hours-

but the two and a bit weeks

like a disinterested fat man

yawning an silent hole of nothingness

so I went to bed

to bring morning quicker

nearly screaming

when your green bubble

flashed out of the dark

and later another precious

message, a lighthouse

pulling me from empty sleep

restored for a while

I turn back to

my nighttime

-where far away you’ve

only just entered yours-

and slip into dreams

of goodbyes, waiting

and for a blissful moment

the touch of your hand

upon my sleeping skin
