Lilitu

Lilitu

A Poem by hanzabonanza

the evening crouches

on my chest

exhaling misty breath

across my neck

she scampered up

from the open window

onto the bed

pinning me there

she does not want me

to call out to you

so suppresses my cry

with her thick grey clouds

I try to struggle

through her torrents

for your letters by the bed

just out of reach

but she drowns out

your sparkling memory

with a vicious roar

extinguishing my sunbeam

I must wait

till her tempest weakens

and fails

withdrawing her hold on me

so I can leave behind

the mess and destruction

and walk tall into the sun

searching for your smile
