mapping our lives

mapping our lives

A Poem by hanzabonanza

this old town

has watched on

though tears

and days

of defeat

when I wove

a drunk maze

down its streets

stumbling with

strangers

each corner

and pavement

filled to the brim

drenched

in memories

yet today

I became lost

the town unfamiliar

old places

made new again

but swimming

out of the concrete

was a memory

our first landmark

anchoring me in

a night like this

the air wet and heavy

as we kissed on the

corner goodnight

my heart singing

here-

the cafe of our

first meeting

and here-

giddy walks home

the cathedral green-

wearing your

coat with pride

shivering with the cold

and your love

walking by the canal

the water smiling

back at us

the sun playing

in your hair

now I am found

my sweet girl

in the memories

we’ve carved

into the city’s walls

you walk

towards me

and I know

now that this

land is ours forever
