dhat al-himma

dhat al-himma

A Poem by hanzabonanza
"

Dhat al-himma is a character from Arabic literature....hinting at a greater narrative.. a warrior who fights for herself, never giving in to temptation, her name means 'one possessing great resolve'.

"

there is a sound

far away

an ice shelf

collapsing

off a glacier

into the sea

I could feel

it here

miles from the

scream which

pierced my heart

my skin wet

with its tears

all this

as I pull away

from you

the pulsing

of hidden forces

that you

cannot feel

one embrace

destroying

years of desire

the ‘un’

dropping off

unrequited

like the ice

into the water

the tormented

younger me

has gone now

your lips

have come

too late

suddenly

I feel very

sober

in the frozen

black night

your mouth

shapes the word

finally

the air mimicking

its shadow

by realising

our dream

we have killed

any reality

we could have

possibly shared

finally

how ironic

to wait

all these years

only for your kiss

to set me free
