hindsight

A Poem by hanzabonanza

I still think of

that moment

in your car

when the choice

was laid out

in front of me

me

tired, hungover

in last night’s clothes

you

unreachable

the eternal mystique

even dishevelled

you remained

magnificent

you dazzled me

so my voice stuck

in my throat

the whole journey

I couldn’t breathe

couldn’t think

we both froze

when eventually

arriving at my door

two useless puppets

the strings cut

felt mouths sewn shut

that was when

I could have changed

everything

instead cowardly me

let my lips brush

your cheeks

hands fumbled

for the door handle

staggering out

inside I raged

cursed

and wept

watching you drive off

from the window

disappearing out of my life

You have an exceptional way with words; each like magnets sticks deep inside my head. It is nice to find a great poetess is this vast mess.
