shut eye

shut eye

A Poem by hanzabonanza

I hit the snooze

again and again

desperate to be dragged

deeper into another dream

I was hoping

in my drowsy state

to find you there

the old beautiful you

got lucky eventually

how many layers deep

had I fallen

I couldn’t tell

at the bottom step

you looked back at me

your pearl earrings

making your neck glitter

all my hopes in that snapshot

for an imagined future

or lived past

my sleeping hands reached out

I hate unfinished business

my foot wedging the door

stubbornly open

but you’ll never come

only in slumber

can I have you

yet the greater truth:

I am still sleeping even now

morning intrudes rudely

and reluctantly I imitate life

I’m clinging to our lost summer

ignoring winter’s arrival

in my inbox

there is a message from you

continuing our ping pong

conversation over the weeks

I read every word

over and over

looking for a hidden sign

the technology leaving me cold

do not think my reply

is in any way casual

I’ve counted the days

to match yours exactly

I’m trying so hard

for you

miss mina, I really like your writing style. simple yet eloquent. like the last two lines of this poem. they say so much more than the 6 simple words that are there. nicely done.
