metamorphosis

A Poem by hanzabonanza

I wonder how it happened

letting old defenses fall

after so long

the waves knocking me over

til I was bent over double

choking on my own words

the ground is a strange place

to find solitude in

after falling so far

the earth warm under my touch

but clinging unwanted

beneath my fingernails

in the roar

of the storm

you can lose yourself

drunk on the wind and rain

and the salt on your cheeks

it’s almost comforting

I can’t remember the words

of the song

but it was about being too close

to the rays of the sun

it burnt you

overloaded by its flare

to the point of exhaustion

and my mind races

races

races

out of control

every word, look, touch

replayed

let’s live in the moment

or moments passed

I’ve waited patiently

on the bed

but sleep still doesn’t come

only my conscience

to comfort me
