Chapter ThreeA Chapter by JenniferChapter Three She
left as soon as she was done with her Thanksgiving dinner with her family.
Sonya went straight home to grab a lawn chair and a sleeping bag. She threw
everything into the back of her suburban and she was off to the big sale event
of the year. Sonya
arrived to a parking lot that was already full of cars. She went on a quest to
locate a place to park. She finally parked her car and grabbed her chair and
sleeping bag from the back seat. Sonya
was greeted by a long line of people who had the same idea as she did. She sat
next to a couple who were huddled together in their plaid and brown sleeping
bags. “Are
they going to open at midnight?” she asked them. The
lady looked at her, “No, it looks like we are camping out tonight.” Sonya
shrugged and joined them on the sidewalk. She would go find a store that did
open at midnight, but that would mean looking for a parking spot again. The
hours passed by and it was almost time for the store to open. Some
people packed up their sleeping bags and tents. They crowded by the front door.
The shoving and fighting was about to begin. The
doors slid open as the mob slid their fingers through the opening doors. It was
as though they forced the doors open with eager anticipation. Everyone
stampeded through the store as though they were cattle. People
tore through merchandise and yanked items off of the shelves before it was too
late. Sonya moved through the store as quickly as possible and grabbed anything
that she could find. Scarves, gift sets, and electronics were vanishing. There
was squealing and shouting. There was a brawl in the electronics section of the
store. Sonya grabbed as many items as she wanted and rushed to the register
before anything could get crazier. Then there was a hot flash that felt similar
to a flash from a camera. The
world around her began to twirl in slow motion. Merchandise and people flew
away from the entrance. Shelves crashed on the floor and people flew above
Sonya. She
held her bag as though it would prevent her from flying. She and everyone else
landed on the floor. Then a giant ball of fire approached the store at
lightning speed. Sonya
watched everything and everyone as they began to catch fire. She was screaming,
but the screams of horror and sound of shattering glass drowned out her sound.
Then everything went black. © 2021 Jennifer |
