Brigham Young

Brigham Young

A Chapter by Jennifer
"

Peter had corresponded with Brigham

"

During this time, there were many brutal things going on. The Shoshone were starving and attacking emigrants for food. It is believed that some of the attacks were whites dressed as Indians.

Brigham had kept peace with the Shoshone by feeding them. The government had started to believe that the Mormons were staging all attacks against emigrants and the pony express.

Massacres had been happening in this area. The most popluar was the Meadow Creek Massacre. There had been speculation of whether it was Brigham's doing or not. The Civil War had started and President Lincoln had grown suspicious of Brigham's loyalty to the United States.

Lincoln had been suspecting that Brigham had turned the Shoshone against the mail carriers. Brigham had declared that he was on the right side. There were troops sent anyway. Peter had corresponded with Brigham on the aftermath and the refugees of the Bear River Massacre.
