Chapter 5A Chapter by Miss. MarieChapter 5 Eliah Razor Dess I grabbed Elly before she fell sensing that she had stood
up too fast while her body was so weak. Being so close to her was intoxicating;
the warmth of her body, the soft smell of soap and shampoo. Moments like this
seemed to drag on forever. What felt like an hour to me was only a few seconds
before her eyes started to flutter open. My face was strangely close to hers
and I felt the slightest tickle of her eyelashes on my cheek. When her eyes met
mine I realized how odd this position was and I straightened her up trying to
ignore the blush spreading across her cheeks. Frantically Elly tried to
straighten her hair and then nervously realized it was time to go to the next
class. Grabbing her books she took one last look at me and dashed out the door.
All
of this happened in seconds before I could even think or get out a word. My
first reaction was worry, she had just fainted and less than a minute later was
running off to her next class. After that I realized that whatever was going on
with Elly really wasn’t any of my business. I headed off to class forgetting
about the entire situation and the only thing that remained in my mind was the
smell of her strawberry lip gloss. Elly Elizabeth Bell Nathaniel didn’t think I could feel his eyes on my back,
the girls standing next to me in the hall don’t think I can hear them talking
about the break up, Eliah doesn’t realize his sweet minty breath makes me dizzy
and Damion just thinks he can kiss me whenever he wants. This day just needed
to be over so I could go to the doctors and get something to put me to sleep
for a week at the least. I could sense Nathaniel’s eyes on me once again and a
surge of anger made me whip around and meet his eyes down the hallway. A
surprised look rippled across his face before he quickly dipped his head and
disappeared into the crowd. Slamming my locker shut I cringed at the pain in my
side and decided my last class of the day really wasn’t worth it. Showing the school nurse the wreckage that my
side was I was allowed to go home. I sent a quick text to Lexi letting her know
that I had gone home to take a nap and would go to the doctors later when she
got out of practice and to please let coach know what was going on for me.
Pausing for a moment I sent her a second text letting her know I was taking the
car and if she couldn’t get a ride after practice to just let me know and I
would just come get her. Throwing my purse in the passenger seat I started the car
and pulled out of the parking lot in the drizzling rain and fog. Rolling the
windows down I let the cool air take away each and every memory of the day.
First of all was the over reaction of Damon this morning. Then was all the
twinges of pain threw out the day. Lastly was the way Eliah had made my heart
do flips for him and how guilty it made me feel afterwards. I still had a sense
of loyalty for Nathaniel even though it seemed as if he had done everything to
destroy my feelings for him. His stormy gray eyes had sent sparks throughout my
skin. I let the sting of the fog lift it all away and let out a
deep breath feeling not as relieved as I wanted to be. Once I got into the
house I put on my yoga pants and crawled into bed setting my cell on the table
next to me. Just half an hour nap at the most, just enough to get rid of this
raging head ache. I hit play on the stereo and the sweet lyrics of a love song
were the last thing I heard as my eyelids drifted close and the blackness
consumed me. If there had been an onlooker they would have seen that even after
an hour I still hadn’t woken up. After two hours I still wasn’t awake and the
vibrating of my phone only made me slightly stir in bed. Lexi Marie Bell “Come on Elly, pick up the phone please…” I rocked back and
forth on my heels trying to stay warm in the suffocating blanket of fog. It
wouldn’t surprise me if she was still sleeping. Trying Elly for the fourth or
fifth time a truck pulled up next to the curb. Looking up I smiled at the sight
of Eden one of the guys I had grown up with. “It looks like somebody needs a ride.” He smiled and
motioned for me to get in. Jumping in the truck I took notice of his amazing
arms and super thin tee clinging to his rippling abs. As soon as I had this
thought I tried to take it back. All these years of knowing him never once had
a thought like that crossed my mind. “Where’s your car, or your sister?”
Breaking my thoughts he turned toward me. “Elly left school early today and something must have come
up for her to not come back to get me.” He glanced over toward me and nodded as
if he understood. “I haven’t talked to you in forever Eden how have you been?” “Well, pretty good actually. I can’t believe that Senior
year is almost half way over already? Do you remember back in second grade when
I had my glue eating phase? Or when you had your fairy princess year? It seems
like centuries ago now…” His excitement vibrated through me and I started to
feel the same sentimental feelings that he did about the whole thing. The
conversation continued on this topic and I was dying laughing by the time we
got to my house. “Oh wow, thank you so much for the ride and the talk. We
were an unstoppable team when we were kids.” I smiled at him with all the
memories flashing through my mind. “You should text me sometime, you never know
maybe we can bring the dangerous duo back together.” Saying thank you one last
time I ran up to the door of the house feeling energized and happy. Finding
Elly still curled up in bed I couldn’t even be mean enough to wake her up and
take her to the doctor. Tucking the blankets closer around her I figured that
it could wait just one more day. After finishing my homework and reading a few chapters from
a book I smiled at the text message I had just received. Biting my lower lip
like I did whenever I was nervous I read the simple words. “Hey, it’s Eden :)
what’s up?” I took how I felt in for a moment before sending back a simple
“hey”. Elly Elizabeth
Bell I rolled over in bed feeling groggy but much better then
before. I sat up looking at the clock, it read 4:30 and I expected Lexi to be
calling soon. Throwing on a sweatshirt I headed to kitchen suddenly feeling
very hungry. My side ached but I just ignored the feeling, craving a bowl of
cereal. I sat down on the couch and turned on the television,
clutching my cereal bowl closely. I wondered if I was still sleeping when I
could only find infomercials and strange old movies on all the channels. This
is when I realized that there was no light coming through the window and the
house was dark and quiet. I looked at my phone and it read 4:45… am. Putting
down the cereal bowl I went to Lexi’s room and was relieved to find her in bed.
At least she had found a way home. I sat down and finished my cereal in
silence. Afterwards I thought about going back to bed, but I wasn’t tired. Instead I took a bath to relax. Once the water started to
cool down I got out and put on a pair of shorts and a tank top. Headed back
over to the couch I looked out the window and could see the park across the
street lit by one small light. I stopped to look a moment longer when I
realized that there was somebody sitting on the swings. Their back was toward
the window and with all the shadows it was hard to make out any details. I
turned off the light so the entire house was dark. My eyes began to adjust and
I began to make out the features of the person on the swing. Broad shoulders, dark, short hair, a tattoo peeking out of
the sleeve on the right shoulder. I opened the door, walked across the road and
sat down in a swing as the startled figure looked up. “What’s wrong Nathaniel?” I asked looking straightforward. “Where are your shoes?” Was
his only response. Looking down I laughed at the sight of my dirty feel lacking
shoes. “Oops, I just took a bath too.” Smiling I looked at Nathaniel, and
dropped the smile at the sight of his face. I broke eye contact and looked down
again. “Don’t stop” he said quietly. “Don’t
stop what?” I asked, puzzled. “Don’t stop smiling because of me, I haven’t seen
you smile in months” “Well look at how dirty my
feet are, I’m surprised your not laughing with me.” I wiggled my toes out in
front of me. “Why would your feet being dirty be funny?” He asked flatly. “Yeah
I guess your right.” “So what are you doing here at
5 in the morning?” I asked as I started to swing back and forth. “I was thinking about you..”
There was no emotion in his voice whatsoever. It seemed he regretted what he
said right before he got up and walked over to the slide. Sliding my feet
through the dirt I stopped swinging and walked after him. What he said had
joggled something inside of me and I couldn’t just leave him alone. I caught up with him and
didn’t know what to do next. “Nathaniel, do you want to talk?” He was silent for a moment.
“Do you remember when we use to meet out here when your parents were home. When
you couldn’t sleep for about a month straight?” “Yes, I remember you used to
pass out on the picnic table while I spent the entire night swinging. I
remember you chased me around the entire park until I was so tired that I had
no option but to fall asleep.” I moved closer to him. “I don’t know if I miss you
more as my friend or as my girlfriend.” This time he looked straight at me. “I didn’t know you missed me
at all. You seemed to be over it.” © 2012 Miss. MarieAuthor's Note
