![]() Silent WalkA Story by Amelie Poulain![]() This is one version of a couple that I have written.![]() Silence...seconds ticking by, the seconds of hope that lingered in my mind that day in May. The flowers were blooming and the birds flew through the air, only for that one moment it was all silent, until the wind blew the silence away, I was left alone with the noise, silence had abandoned me and I knew I had to follow. "Hey Lena," the boy across the isle whispered,"What's the answer to number five?" "Seventy-four," I said back, not knowing if that was a right or wrong answer. My thoughts were somewhere else today and I couldn't think about any thing else until this was resolved. My family was planning to move, but I didn't want to go, not in the least bit. They wanted to move someplace far away, like China or Germany, but I wanted to stay right where I was in the city of San Francisco. The noise was not something I liked very much, but everything else was worth it. Plus everything about moving didn't sound right, it felt wrong, like no good would come from moving. So when my parents decided, finally, to leave me behind, even though they were very sad about it, and move to China with the rest of the family, it was hard to take in the fact that they all died when the plane crashed. Now I was all alone. My parents, never needing more money, left me with a huge fortune, so I decided to get away, to find the silence. © 2009 Amelie Poulain |
