A Different Kind of War

A Different Kind of War

A Poem by Kaite Seckinger
"

In a desperate search for college scholarships I found several opportunities to get money by writing poetry, so I tried my hand at another poem. I highly doubt it will win anything, but I can hope! :)

"

Newborn baby in mother’s womb

Cannot yet smell the rose’s bloom

Of which feeds off the morning sun,

Rays shot out like a violent gun.

Oh darling, darling can’t you see?

The world I’m sharing, not yet with thee?

The fears I have of times to come,

Leave me craving to snatch the tiny crumb

Of years ago, times long forgotten,

Before modern idols forced the world to rotten.

Dreaming of yesterday, such days to cherish "

Simpler times left alone to perish.

I cry, unable to keep you safe from harm,

As a troubled God-less country sounds deafening alarm.

I fear my darling, to this earth, bringing thee

Your safety remaining my only undying plea.

I may fear your survival in this world,

Such an innocent child, into wicked perils hurled…

With war, neglect, and hatred holding never-ending blades,

Leaving love, compassion, and faith very much betrayed.

I am left with relief from my constant sorrows,

For I promise you to be there, your todays and your tomorrows.

To cover you with security and the bond of a mother’s love,

The kind that one imagines only comes from up above.

I promise to soothe you and ease away your pain,

To comfort you, and guide you away from those who feign.

To nurture, care, and be there " I give my word.

I’ll shield you from these evils like the wings of a bird.

So do not fret my little one,

Who cannot feel rays of morning sun,

For while there’s wickedness that spews,

I’ve found good in the beauty that is you.

You words perfectly express the feelings of anyone who has looked around
themself and saw what seems to be madness all around them. This poem is
about love in it's purist form. It is quite noble and heroic as well.
