ordinary

ordinary

A Poem by Merryweather Honeyfoot

while the arms of trees
and the seeds of dirt
tried so hard to make sure
that no one was hurt
i crawled along the path,
realized i better turn around
i drank a sip of the sap,
knew i had to silently sound
a call to the world, to humanity
a song to the unconscious
to immortality
because you - the knowing
died for sovereignty
while i patiently sat here
simply sewing together
the dull clarity
of the ordinary.
